YOUR HEART AS AN ALTAR: secret access to the Godhead

YOUR HEART AS AN ALTAR: secret access to the Godhead

Human being is tripartite. Human being can be divided into 3 parts. Every human being is with 3 parts: body, soul and spirit. Man is one with 3 parts as mentioned in 1 Thessalonians 5:23 KJV”And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Access to God (the Holy Trinity) has always been through an altar – and the altar of your heart is the secret access to the Godhead.

The altar of the heart of any genuinely born again Christian is the sacred (holy) place and the secret place that is created, fashioned and reserved for God alone. It is the place to offer Christian sacrifices to God and live as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to Him (God)  – Romans 12:1 KJV “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”

When the idol worshippers or unbelievers desire to communicate with devils (demons), the altars of their hearts are required. This is the counterfeit means of communicating with the unclean spirits. This is copied from the original means of communication between the Christian believers and God. Satan and his cohorts (agents) are counterfeiters. When God moves in the spirit, Satan also moves – and this is the reason why the gift of discerning of spirits plays a vital role to know the spirit in operation at any particular point in time (at any occasion).

Altar is a gateway to the spirit realm from the physical realm. Everyone has an altar of the heart either to communicate God or Satan as there is no vacuum in the spirit realm – 1 Samuel 16:15-16, 23  KJV “And Saul’s servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee. Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well. And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.”

As there is never a vacuum in the spirit realm, if God is not using someone, definitely Satan will use such a person by taking over the altar of  his/her heart just exactly like  king Saul’s experience in the Bible – 1 Samuel 18:10  KJV “And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and there was a javelin in Saul’s hand.”  There is a big lesson to learn here; anytime you are in the church or any gathering where spiritual activity is taken place, you must have to discern the kind of spirit in operation.

When God wants to communicate with you, the altar of your heart is required. The altar of God symbolizes light, therefore the altar of the heart (spirit) of every true Christian symbolizes candle (light) which God uses to communicate with us – Proverbs 20:27  KJV  “The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.” The spirit of man is the heart of man. This heart functions as an altar because it is where the spirit of man meets with the Spirit of God.

This altar of the heart of man meeting with the Spirit of God must be clean and pure in order to commune with God – Psalms 24:3-4  KJV “Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.”

Three (3) key objects are mentioned in this scripture – clean hands, pure heart and soul. Hands represent body, heart represents spirit and soul completes the 3 parts of man. All these three parts are the elements made up of the altar.

3 PARTS OF MAN AND THE ALTAR: Body, Soul and Spirit

In my last article (why you don’t need deliverance from evil altar) , it was mentioned that the Godly altar is made up of 3 parts – (1) the outer court typifying body (2) the Holy Place typifying soul and (3) the Holy of Holies typifying spirit (heart).  It is in the Holy of Holies you find the ark of God representing the presence of God. This means that the ultimate, the best is our heart (spirit). This is where God by the Holy Spirit dwells in the life of any genuinely born again Christian. The  Holy Spirit lives inside the spirit (heart) of a Christian believer because he is the temple of the Holy Spirit – 1 Corinthians 3:16-17  KJV ‘Know….that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God (the Holy Spirit)  dwelleth in you….for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.” This scripture says you are the temple of God if you are genuinely born again.

The temple in the Old Testament had (1) the outer court,(2) the Holy Place and (3) the Holy of Holies. And every genuinely born again Christian in the New Testament is a temple of God having these 3 parts – (1) the outer court typifying body (2) the Holy Place typifying soul and (3) the Holy of Holies typifying spirit (heart).  It is in the Holy of Holies you find the ark of God which is the presence of God. Therefore, it is in your born again spirit (heart) that the Holy Spirit dwells or lives.

Out of these, the greatest is our heart because it requires holy (unpolluted) heart to see the Holy God, that is, the heart that is not corrupt but pure –  the spirit that is free from corruption.  The altar of our heart is the most important part of a Christian believer’s life.

The holy body is good, the clean soul is better but the pure heart is the best.

This is the reason why the altar of your heart is the greatest, the ultimate and the best for the reason that it requires a pure heart to see God – Matthew 5:8 KJV “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.”

THE FIRE OF GOD AND THE ALTAR OF THE HEART IN THE NEW TESTAMENT

Once someone is genuinely born again, he or she carries the fire of God from Heaven which many Christians called “the Holy Ghost fire”. The burnt offering at the outer court – the altar built for burnt offering (the body) needs fire to burn it in the Old Testament. And nobody put fire on this altar but God Himself. After the preparation of the altar and ready for the burnt offering, the  Heavenly fire comes down from the throne of God to set the fire on the altar and consume the offering –  Leviticus 9:24  KJV “And there came a fire out from before the LORD, and consumed upon the altar the burnt offering and the fat: which when all the people saw, they shouted, and fell on their faces.”

As a tribute to God, a burnt offering was entirely burnt on the altar. The priests made this offering twice a day. Individuals could also make a burnt offering to show their devotion and commitment to God.

In the New Testament, just like the above narrative in the Old Testament, no man (no pastor) puts the fire of God in the life of a Christian believer but God Himself through the Holy Spirit when someone is born again. There are two dimensions of the glorious presence of the Holy Spirit in the life of a Christian believer – the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit and the infilling power of the Holy Spirit. All the genuinely born again Christians are burnt sacrifice of God through the altar of the heart where the Holy Spirit lives. This is possible in the life of the New Testament Christian through the finished works of our Lord Jesus on the altar of the Cross of Calvary.

Altar of the heart in the New Testament: the born again spirit/heart.

The body has five senses (touch/feeling, sight, hearing, smell and taste), the soul has four senses (mind, will power, feeling and desire/appetite) while the spirit has three senses known as conscience, intuition and communion). Another name for the word “communion” is “fellowship”.

To have communion/fellowship with God, the altar of our pure heart is highly needed or required. No sacrifice is accepted by God without the altar of the pure heart. In other words, God only accepts the sacrifice through the altar of our pure heart – the sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart – Psalms 51:16-17 KJV  “For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.”

It is in the heart the word of God is hidden so that no one keeps on sinning against God – Psalms 119:9, 11  KJV “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”

It takes our heart to obey God rather than burnt sacrifice – 1 Samuel 15:22  KJV “And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.”

God always looks at our heart but never our countenance ( the outward appearance) – He (God) is more interested in our heart than our countenance (the outward appearance): 1 Samuel 16:7 KJV  “But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”

God weighs our actions by the altar of our heart – 1 Samuel 2:3 KJV “Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.”

It is from the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks –  Matthew 12:34 KJV “O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.”

Another reason why the altar of our heart is very important is that the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked but it is only God who can know it – Jeremiah 17:9 KJV  ‘The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” The altar of the heart is used as a tool by the wicked people to do wickedness.

THE ALTAR OF THE HEART BY IDOLS

Where you see ungodly (evil) altars, there you see idols and where you see idols, you see foul/unclean spirits (evil) called devils or demons since any altar is a place where the spirit realm meets with the physical realm. These false gods deceive the hearts of the idol worshippers using the altars of the heart.

It is possible for human beings to set up idols in their heart because the altar of the heart has capacity to accommodate and be possessed by the evil spirits. The altar is the platform or medium for spirits to interact with man: Ezekiel 14:3-4, 7  KJV “Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them? Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols; For every one of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, which separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to a prophet to enquire of him concerning me; I the LORD will answer him by myself:”

Idols love the altar of the heart of man.

Do you have altars in your heart occupied and possessed by unfruitful idols that need to be destroyed?

To destroy any form of idol in the heart, Godly altar must be built in the heart. The power of Holy Spirit can destroy all the idols of the heart by the Godly altar built in the heart of every genuinely born again Christian. When someone is genuinely born again by accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as his or her personal Lord and Saviour, the body of such a Christian believer becomes the temple of God. And the temple of God has the altar of burnt offering and the altar of incense (prayer).

The idols that are presenting and manifesting themselves at the altar of the heart by the spirits are the spirits of jealousy, envy, pride, malice, anger, hatred, bitterness, false teachings, moral compromises, prosperity gospel, lust, greed, selfishness, etc. All these are false altars which many are using to worship idols in their heart. Anything you love more than God in your heart is an idol – therefore we are to flee any form of idolatry – 1 Corinthians 10:14 KJV “Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.”  Idolatry is the worship of idols. It takes heart to worship idols. Heart is needed to worship idols

If permitted, the altar of the heart that is occupied by idols will aggressively take over someone’s allegiance, loyalty, commitment, faithfulness to the Lord Jesus Christ and  will set up a throne in the  heart. In our Christian journey, every true child of God must have to ask the Holy Spirit to continually examine our heart and show us the true nature of the altar of our heart – Psalms 139:23 KJV and 2 Corinthians 13: 5 NKJV “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts…. Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.”  It is during this heart search/examination that He (God) reveals the exact places where we have constructed false altars in our heart and are worshiping idols at times without knowing.

All these idols manifesting and presenting themselves in our heart in form of spirit like the spirit of anger must be destroyed  on the Godly altar of our heart by tearing and burning it down – Ecclesiastes 7:9 KJV Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.”

The word of God says we should keep ourselves free of idols – 1 John 5:21 KJV “Little children (genuinely born again Christians), keep yourselves from idols. Amen.” Idols in this bible sense, in this scripture are false teachings, moral compromises, and anything that would take God’s place in your heart.

There is spirit behind every idol. All idols are controlled by spirits, for instance, the spirits of jealousy, envy, pride, malice, anger, hatred, bitterness, false teachings, moral compromises,  prosperity gospel, lust, greed, selfishness, etc. must be destroyed by tearing and burning them (these idols) down on the Godly altars of our heart and renounce them (the idols) completely. God made known in His Word in the Bible that He cannot share with any idol the holy place in our heart that He has designed and made only for Himself alone. God makes it clear in His word that we should have no other gods before Him, or make any idols for ourselves – Exodus 20:3  KJV “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”

We must love God with our body, soul and body. Our heart, soul, and mind belong to Him, and He has no space for roommates of jealousy, envy, pride, malice, anger, hatred, bitterness, false teachings, moral compromises, prosperity gospel, lust, greed, selfishness, etc. – Luke 10:27  KJV “And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.”  It is by the sacrifice of the altar of your heart you will need to love your neighbour as well.

Altar of our heart is the greatest of us as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God!
