WHAT IS THE GOSPEL?

KNOW AND UNDERSTAND HOW IT IS DEFINED IN THE BIBLE

Do you know why the word “gospel” is never mentioned in the Old Testament?

The gospel has to do with Jesus Christ – Mark 1:1 KJV “The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.”

The first time the word “gospel” appeared in the Bible is in Matthew 4:23 KJV “And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.”

What is the gospel?

How does the Bible define gospel?

The gospel is the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ – 1 Corinthians 15:1 – 4 KJV “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand.” By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

It is through this gospel that the whole world will be judged – Romans 2: 16 KJV “In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.”

This gospel is the gospel of the apostle Paul. The Apostle Paul’s gospel was revealed to him by the Lord Jesus Christ in Ephesians 3: 1 – 10 KJV “For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:  How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; That the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel: Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power.  Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;  And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:  To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God.”

This gospel is the atonement of the blood of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary for humanity. This gospel is all about what the Lord Jesus Christ did for us.

The blood atonement of Jesus Christ is what the salvation is all about.

In the Old Testament, God demanded blood for the remission of sin – and that blood is the sacrifice of the animals. The blood of animals was required for the forgiveness of sin in the Old Testament –
Leviticus 17:11 KJV “For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.”

In the New Testament, the Lord Jesus Christ put a permanent end to this through His blood because God required blood for the remission of sin –  Hebrews 9:22  KJV “And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.”

The gospel gives details the blood atonement of Jesus Christ for our sin. Forgiveness of sin is only through the blood sacrifice – 1 John 1:7  KJV “….the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”

In the Old Testament, Moses always used the blood of ram or goat (animal) as blood atonement forgiveness of sin. But this spiritual activity was the shadow of the substance of the reality of the blood atonement of Jesus Christ in the New Testament.

In the New Testament, Jesus Christ is the lamb of God that was sacrificed as blood atonement that took away the sin of the world – John 1:29 KJV “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.’ This is the gospel – Jesus Christ took away the sin of the world.

The gospel puts in plain words that it is only the blood atonement of Jesus Christ that justified us  from the sin which the blood atonement of the animals could not do in the Old Testament.

To be justified biblically or scripturally is that when our sin is forgiven by the blood atonement of Jesus Christ, it means we had never sinned before. Scripturally, justification means never sinned before.

The gospel makes clear that our faith in the blood atonement of Jesus Christ justified us from our sin – Romans 5:1, 9  KJV “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:  Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him (Jesus Christ).”

The gospel clarifies that our righteousness comes from the blood atonement of Jesus Christ – our righteousness is in Jesus Christ by a propitiation through faith in His blood – Romans 3:25 KJV  ”Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God.”

The gospel spells out that you don’t trust in what you do but absolutely trust in what Jesus Christ did for you on the Cross for your salvation – the redemption in the blood atonement of Jesus Christ: Ephesians 1:7  KJV “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace.”

The gospel is that when you trust in the blood atonement of Jesus Christ, your sin is forgiven –  and this is the salvation through Jesus Christ.

The gospel elucidates that we are saved by grace through faith in the redemption of the blood atonement of Jesus Christ –  it is not by work(s) but by grace – it is the gift of God : Ephesians 2:5, 8 KJV  “Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) . For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.”

The gospel is that Jesus Christ is our substitute for our sin and the sins of the whole world – 1 John 2:2 KJV “And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.”

Also read as follows for a better understanding of the gospel of salvation of Jesus Christ:

1 John 4:10  KJV “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son (Jesus Christ) to be the propitiation for our sins.

2 Corinthians 5:21 KJV  “For he (God) hath made him (Jesus Christ) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him (Jesus Christ).”

The gospel makes us understand that salvation is personal. The gospel is that Jesus Christ died in my place on the cross. He died for my sin.

This gospel of salvation revealed to the apostle Paul is the mystery acknowledged by the apostle Peter in 1 Peter 1: 7 – 13 KJV.

The gospel to be preaching and teaching in the church age today in this dispensation of grace should be about all what the Lord Jesus Christ did for us (the Christian believers) on the cross so as to forever appreciate Him and be thankful to God always.

The gospel is the preaching and teaching of God’s remedy for sin in Christ Jesus.

The gospel is just to believe in Jesus Christ for salvation – just believe in Him and you are saved: John 16:9 KJV and Acts 16:31 KJV “Of sin, because they believe not on me….And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”

Has your pastor preached and taught you the gospel of salvation of Jesus Christ?

The gospel of salvation of Jesus Christ is completely different from the prosperity gospel – it is completely strange to the prosperity gospel.

The gospel of salvation of Jesus Christ enlightens us that it is only in Jesus Christ anyone can obtain salvation for eternal life –  Acts 4:12 KJV “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

The gospel of salvation of Jesus Christ gives details that salvation in Christ Jesus is a gift of eternal life : Romans 6:23 KJV and Ephesians 2:8 KJV  “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord… For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.”

Have you gotten the revelation knowledge of all what the Lord Jesus Christ did on the cross for mankind (for the whole world)?

The gospel of salvation of Jesus Christ is how God gave up Jesus Christ as the propitiation for our sin to restore the broken relationship that took place in the garden of Eden back to God through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ: Matthew 27:46 KJV, 1 John 2:2 KJV and 2 Corinthians 5:18 KJV “And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?…. And he (Jesus Christ) is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world… And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself (God) by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation.”

The gospel of salvation of Jesus Christ is a personal salvation whereby individual Christian believers must have to work out his own salvation with fear and trembling in the sense that every genuinely born again Christian must have a personal walk and intimate relationship with God in Christ Jesus – Philippians 2:12 KJV “…..Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” Working out your own salvation with fear and trembling is growing and developing your own personal walk and intimate relationship with God in Christ Jesus after your genuine salvation.
