THE PRODUCT OF HERO WORSHIP: Subservience

Written by onetruth

The hero worship of highly anointed men of God in the church has exalted subservience. Subservience is a willingness to obey others unthinkingly and unquestioningly; a willingness to do what other people want, or the act of considering your wishes as less important than those of other people: the condition of being less important than something else. The Lord Jesus Christ discouraged this mindset in Matthew 19:16 – 19 KJV and Matthew 23:8 -11 KJV “And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God…….But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren. And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ. But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.”

Subservience nurtures eye service, hypocrisy and flattering remarks/expressions. All these characteristics/features of subservience are present and evident in prosperity gospel churches. In prosperity gospel church, nobody can question the senior pastors and General Overseers for wrongdoing or unbiblical practice in the church. It is all that “the senior pastors and General Overseers are always right” which is not scriptural because any man of God no matter how highly anointed, he is still a human being (not an angel) and can still fall into errors – men of God are fallible: Matthew 19:16 – 19 KJV and Job 32:9 KJV “And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God…..Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment.”

The deceived members of the prosperity gospel church believe that their General Overseers and senior pastors are perfect to the level that they can never fall into the doctrinal error; that they can never make mistakes! And the General Overseers and their senior pastors benefit from their ignorance – they feed on the gullibility of their church members. This type of mindset that General Overseers and senior pastors can never make mistakes can only be found in the life of the deceived members of the church.
