RAPE: The Statistics and The Solution By The New Testament

(Unlike COVID-19 vaccines, no vaccine can stop rape but only boys/men can permanently end rape)

1 in 3 women globally experience rape! According to World Health Organization (WHO), younger women among those most at risk ( Rape against girls/women remains overwhelmingly persistent and globally omnipresent. Statistically, the data from WHO revealed that across their lifetime, 1 in 3 women, around 736 million had encountered rape (sexual violence offence).

Rape experience by female folks starts from childhood. World Health Organization (WHO) stated that one (1) in four (4) young women (aged 15-24 years) who have been in a relationship will have already experienced rape by an intimate partner by the time they reach their mid-twenties.

World Health Organization (WHO) at the site (( documented that “Violence against women is endemic in every country and culture, causing harm to millions of women and their families, and has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “But unlike COVID-19, violence against women cannot be stopped with a vaccine. We can only fight it with deep-rooted and sustained efforts – by governments, communities and individuals – to change harmful attitudes, improve access to opportunities and services for women and girls, and foster healthy and mutually respectful relationships.”

Accurate figure cannot be achieved statistically on girls and women who have been raped because globally, the rape case is under-reported due to high level of stigma associated with it. It is regrettable that many girls including the teenagers are being raped by those who are supposed to be protecting them and even to guarantee them safety.

The site ( documented that a United Nations statistical report compiled from government sources showed that more than 250,000 cases of rape or attempted rape were recorded by police annually.

BBC news site (  documented and reported “Rape statistics in Nigeria 2020” that one man confessed to police that he raped over forty (40) women including an 80 (eighty) year old within a year!

Google site ( documented that UNICEF reported in 2015 that one (1) in four (4) girls in Nigeria had experienced sexual violence of rape before the age of 18. According to a survey by Positive Action for Treatment Access, over 31.4 percent of girls said that their first sexual encounter had been rape or forced sex of some kind.

The RAINN site ( statistically documented that every sixty eight (68) seconds, an American is sexually assaulted – on average, there are 463,634 victims (age 12 or older) of rape and sexual assault each year in the United States. This RAINN site revealed further that Ages 12-34 are the highest risk years for rape and sexual assault and those age 65 and older are 92% less likely than 12-24 year olds to be a victim of rape or sexual assault, and 83% less likely than 25-49 year olds. The whole statistical analysis revealed that the majority of rape victims are under thirty (30).

In the New Testament under dispensation of grace and the church age (dispensation of the Holy Spirit), the crime of rape is not directly mentioned but the New Testament considers rape as terrible sexual immorality that defiles the body.

The Lord Jesus Christ spoke against sexual immorality; He (the Lord Jesus Christ) condemns it, even it is only condition in Christian marriage where the Lord Jesus Christ approved divorce on the justifiable ground of sexual immorality – Matthew 5:32 NKJV and Matthew 19:9 NKJV “But I (Jesus Christ) say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual immorality causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery…. And I (Jesus Christ) say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.” This shows that Jesus Christ does not condone rape at all and it is the high level of sin – the sin of sexual immorality.

The provisions of the law on rape of any country must be obeyed. This is because in the New Testament, the Christian believers are commanded to obey the laws of the governing authorities – Romans 13: 1 – 2 NKJV “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.” There is no government or governing authorities anywhere in any country that God has not placed or put in power. So people who refuse to obey the law on rape of the land are refusing to obey God, and punishment (sentence) will follow.

On moral grounds, rape is morally wrong – and on the laws of the governing authorities, also rape is wrong. Therefore any individual who commits the atrocity or crime of rape should expect the judgment of the government in power; anybody who commits the crime of rape should be ready to face the consequences of the law of the land.

The site ( documented that to the victims of rape, we must offer much care and compassion. God’s Word often speaks about helping those in need and in vulnerable situations. The site expressed further that Christians should model the love and compassion of Christ by assisting victims of rape in any way possible.

The New Testament gives us the understanding that people are responsible for the sins they commit, including rape. The New Testament expressed further that however, no one is beyond the grace of God. Even to those who have committed the vilest of sins, God can extend forgiveness if they repent and turn from their evil ways (1 John 1:9). This does not remove the need for punishment according to the law, but it can offer hope and the way to a new life.

God does not condone rape at all. It is a great sin. The rapists if they don’t repent would end up in the lake of fire on the judgment day.

Note again that the law in Deuteronomy 22:28–29 protected the woman against rape and was also designed to discourage sexual immorality. The act of the rapist on his victim rendered her unacceptable as a wife for others in Jewish culture as at that time in the Old Testament days. Furthermore, the law was designed to indicate responsibility in the sex act for the rapist in Jewish culture as at that time in the Old Testament days where women were given little or no regard.

By marrying her, the rapist was accepting the consequences of his actions, paying her father damages, restitution, and compensation – and taking on the responsibilities of a husband to provide protection and security.

In the ancient time of the Bible days, any man who marries by rape brings dishonor, shame and disgrace to himself and his family (tribe) at large. The rapist brings embarrassment to both his family and tribe in Israel in those Old Testament days.

In the community of real men such a man is not regarded at all; he is a social misfit and a public disgrace. He is a reject in the book of good men. He is not a real man of honor and dignity. He is not a man of integrity. He would never be on the same page with great men of caliber. He does not belong to excellent men in the society; he is an outcast to the club/association of noble men. Life social stigma of being a rapist is attached to him.

But the honor and self-esteem (dignity) of the rape victim even as a wife to the rapist (her husband) is maintained in the society. However, a rape victim could decide not to marry her rapist if she chose to do so; this will discourage, checkmate and prevent any man at will for marrying any woman forcibly if he desires by simply raping her. Rape is a sexual sin in the world we live. God does not and He will never support and encourage sexual sin of rape.
