Prosperity Gospel Pastors monetize Jesus Name – thrive, flourish in a poverty-stricken nation!!! But know the true calling – Matthew 10:8 KJV
Matthew 10:8 KJV
“Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give”
Five (5) Most Profitable Industries in the World in 2021 are (1) Software (System and Application) (2) Computer Peripherals (3) Drugs and Pharmaceuticals (4) Oil and Gas Industry and (5) Household Products.
But in Nigeria, the most profitable industry is prosperity gospel. The most lucrative business /enterprise in Nigeria/Africa is Prosperity Gospel.
Features of the Prosperity Gospel Pastors:
- Prosperity gospel preachers/pastors amass great wealth to themselves
- They twist scriptures or misinterpret Bible for money-making
- They measure Jesus Christ with possession of materialism (material things or money) – 1 Corinthians 15:19 “If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable
- They misinterpreting the scriptures to justify their pursuit and accumulation of riches and wealth in this world in contrary to Matthew 6:20 -21 KJV “But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
- Read also Colossian 3:1-2 KJV “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”
Propagation of prosperity gospel is the most profitable industry in Christianity in Nigeria/Africa. And this is the reason why Nigerian pastors are the richest and wealthiest pastors in the world.
Prosperity Gospel Pastors monetize Jesus Name for money-making!
But the Lord Jesus Christ told us what His Name should be used for in Mark 16:15, 17 -18 “And he (Jesus Christ) said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature… And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name (Jesus Name) shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”
Prosperity Gospel Pastors monetize Jesus Name for money-making in order to amass riches and wealth for themselves!!
But the Lord Jesus Christ told us that His Name should be used for free of charge – that is, His Name (Jesus Name) should not be monetized – freely ye have received, freely give in Matthew 10: 5, 7 – 8 KJV “…Jesus sent forth, and commanded…go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.”
OUR TRUE CALLING (MANDATE) AS CHRISTIANS
The meaning of gospel is good news. It is good news for someone to be the best graduating student in the higher institution, to buy new car, to get promotion in the office, to get married, to have safe delivery, etc. Apart from prosperity, other benefits of the kingdom of God are healing, breakthroughs, victory, deliverance, protection, etc. Do not be deceived miracles, signs and wonders are benefits of the kingdom of God.
Some pastors in Nigeria / Africa are into preaching the good news of deliverance, healing, etc. All these benefits are the products of the kingdom of God.
What the Lord Jesus Christ commanded us to preach is the kingdom of God – the gospel (good news) of the kingdom of God.
The prosperity gospel is not the gospel of the kingdom of God at all!
The benefits of the kingdom of God are different from preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God.
As we preach the gospel /good news of the kingdom of God, the benefits follow – Luke 4:43 KJV and Luke 9:2 KJV “And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent… And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.” Healing the sick is the benefit of the kingdom of God.
The purpose and focus of the gospel of the kingdom of God is to restore back in Christ Jesus the broken relationship between God and man that took place in the Garden of Eden.
The purpose and focus of the gospel of the kingdom of God is reconciling man back to God in Christ Jesus – 2 Corinthians 5:18 – 20 KJV “And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself (God), not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.”.That is, for man to have a personal walk and intimate (close) relationship with God.
The whole conclusion (summary) of the gospel of the kingdom of God for every Christian and church (no matter the denomination) is
(1) To feed the hungry
(2) To give drink to the thirsty
(3) To provide shelter for the homeless
(4) To cover the shame of people (to clothe the naked)
(5) To cater/care for the sick
(6) To visit those are in prison.
All is found in Matthew 25:32 -46 KJV “And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: 25:33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. 25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 25:35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: 25:36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. 25:37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? 25:38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? 25:39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? 25:40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: 25:42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: 25:43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. 25:44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? 25:45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. 25:46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.”
If we obey the commandment of the Lord Jesus to preach the kingdom of God with its righteousness, all other things, that is, the benefits of the kingdom of God will automatically follow us – they (the benefits) will automatically manifest in our Christian life and the practice of true Christianity in Nigeria / Africa will be surely achieved: Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
But if we disobey and are preaching the gospel / good news of benefits of the kingdom of God like prosperity, breakthroughs , victory, deliverance, healing, etc., we will end up brainwashing, manipulating, misapplying, and misinterpreting the Bible to cajole, defraud, swindle and scam the church members of their hard earned money. And we will never attain the practice of true Christianity in Nigeria / Africa.
