PRACTICE OF SORCERY – How Does It Operate In The Church? Acts 8:20-21 (KJV)

Beware of Spirit of sorcery/Simon in action in the church!!!

The church in Nigeria has been so bastardized that it is difficult for majority of Christians in Africa, especially in Nigeria, to trust the source of the power of the most of the GOS due to the spirit of sorcery, the spirit of Simon operating in the church!

Why the spirit of sorcery, the spirit of Simon operating in the church?

The answer is simply to scam money from the undiscerned church members.

Some people, especially unbelievers, have this perspective that the church is using sorcery as a secret of making money from the people.

They are not far from the truth, for some pastors (fake ones) who are using the spirit of sorcery (the spirit of Simon) as a secret of making money from the church congregation.

Many General Overseers (GOS) have been blinded by money. This has made them to become greedy and insensitive to the value of genuine Christianity.

The pastor is someone looked upon to as a man next to God in the society but many pastors in Nigerian/African churches are not living up to this status and people’s expectation.

The greed of Simon is recalled in the modern word simony, “using religion as a means of financial and material profit making.”

In an article titled “Simony” written by The Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica (, Simony is defined as buying or selling of something spiritual or closely connected with the spiritual.

Contemporary Christians should take from the account of Simon that the church, even today, must be careful of those claiming to possess supernatural abilities, and those claiming to be Christians who desire to “buy the gift of God with money,” for their “heart is not right before God”: Acts 8:20-21 (KJV) “But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.  Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.”

Sorcery is made possible and easy in Nigerian/African Churches because of the brainwashed mind of the Christians by the pastors. And many Christians in Nigeria, most especially in the Pentecostal circle, are seeking for miracles, signs and wonders; they are not seeking to have a personal walk and intimate relationship with God in spirit and truth.

In Nigerian/African Christianity, we have ‘abracadabra’ ministers and ministries!!!

These ‘abracadabra’ ministers and ministries are producing half-baked Christians and more backsliders than true believers and are infamously contributing in no little measure to the public’s negative perception of Jesus Christ’s gospel of salvation and Christianity in our country (Nigeria) today.

In Nigerian/African Christianity, there is always mercantile and transactional Christianity if ever you see one when the Holy Spirit opens your spiritual eyes and ears in the light of the pure word of God.

Now that you have heard what is being preached from some of our pulpits, are you still wondering why our land is drowning in evil despite the proliferation of churches?

The spirit of sorcery works when “the man of God” (pastor or prophet) makes people believe in his own greatness: Acts 8: 9-11 (KJV) “But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:  To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God. And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.”

That is when a pastor or prophet makes people believe that he is greater than any other person in the gathering – he is emphasizing his own greatness in order to extract or get money from the people present at church service or program; making people believe in him rather than believe in themselves and God alone – that he (“the man of God”) is a great one.

He will make the people believe that he has something precious and valuable which they don’t have. And it is this thing which they don’t have and which he has that their money should go for, that is, they should use their money to get or receive it from him. He will even say God told and instructed him to use it to pray for them which they have to sow the prophetic seed faith (money) to receive it.

The pastor with the spirit of sorcery will make you believe that God has given him spiritual endowments or anointing (some spiritual power) that will make you receive your heart desires – miracles, signs and wonders.

This spirit of Simon is the same as the spirit of sorcery operating in the church where the doctrine of bring your money for God to bless you is in practice.

It is also the spirit of merchandise – making merchandise of the gospel; merchandise of the church members.

The pastor who carries this spirit of sorcery to the church uses it to bewitch their church members as these church members are completely ignorant of it, unless those members who have the gift of discerning spirits and very sound in the word of God.

The spirit of sorcery is all about “me” message of what God tells you to tell people which in turn their money will go for it.

The pastors with the spirit of sorcery will tell you that God told them that He (God) had blessed their lives (the lives of the pastors or prophets or any professed “men of God”) – and they want to transfer that blessings to you but you have to sow seed faith (money) whereas this is a false message because God had blessed everyone already as it is written in the Bible – Ephesians 1:3 KJV “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.”

Their messages will not be that you have the same grace or blessings that they have access to; that you also can go to God direct to obtain the same grace or blessings through the Lord Jesus Christ.

They will not tell you that the Scripture they are using to get money from you is for every true child of God who is genuinely born again. It (the scripture) is for every born again Christian but rather they will tell you that God gave them that particular Scripture specifically for them alone which they will in turn transfer to you after you must have sown prophetic seed faith offering (your hard earned money).

Instead of them to tell you that as they claimed the Scripture or prophecy from the Scripture, that you also can claim it; they will not tell you but they will say you should give money to claim and receive it.

This is the spirit of sorcery operating in the church through the pastors or prophets (“men of God”) who are after your money or whatever they can get from you materially, financially or otherwise.

It is possible for some pastors or prophets to bewitch their church members as it was happened in Galatians’ church during the time of Apostle Paul: Galatians 3:1 (KJV) “O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?” When the church members are bewitched, the spirit of sorcery is in charge.

Some renowned pastors are being accused in Nigeria that they are magicians. People believe that they are using magical power to perform miracles, signs and wonders, even some people say at times, they arrange miracles.

They stage manage miracles in their ministries. It is said that they use their eyes with demonic powers in them to superimpose their thoughts into people because those people have weaker minds. They even appeared to their victims in the dreams when they sleep.

Through bewitchment, they hypnotize their congregation and the general public over their miracles. Bishop Kayode Joseph Abiola Peller, the General Overseer of The Fingers of God Church, Alagbado, Lagos State, Nigeria, and son of the late renowned magician, Professor Peller, made a revelation that (they some renowned pastors) use magic on their followers, that is, they engage the spiritual service of demons by using satanic power of magic (magical power) on their followers.

He explained further that in their actions, if you are in the spirit by the power of the Holy Ghost, you see hypnotism and seduction; you see mesmerism, hypnotism and occult display in what they do.

Bishop Kayode Peller stressed his point and asked this important question that you need to ask yourself – this critical question: How can people jubilate over atmosphere of miracles and before they get to the bus stop, the miracles have gone?

Miracles are not limited to atmosphere! God is in charge of everywhere. They use what is called “telepathizing” in astral world/plane: you will see them do their drama of healing while dancing from one side to another. To telepathize is to communicate with or affect (a person) using telepathy.

Telepathy is the supposed communication of thoughts or ideas by means other than the known senses.

Bishop Peller expressed that in the occult world, telepathizing, hypnotism, occultism, kabbalah magic are processes of ruling the minds of weaker men.

It could go to the length of seeing the magic maker in the dreams once the weaker person allows the demonic spirit of the conjurer to influence his mind.

This occult practice has entered church and it is killing and destroying Christianity in Nigeria/Africa because it is making unbelievers doubt the genuine power of God that will lead them to give their lives to Christ (to be born again genuinely).

The foundation of deceit, occultism and demonic power is present with all the fake pastors and prophets.

This spirit of sorcery is the same thing as witchcraft operating in the church. Some called it “Pentecostal Witchcraft” in the church.
