HOW PROSPERITY GOSPEL PASTORS TWIST BIBLE TO MAKE MONEY FROM PEOPLE – Malachi 3: 8-10 (PART 6)

Malachi 3: 8-10 (KJV) “Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”

Do you know that Malachi 3: 8-10 never talked about money but Agricultural produce?

How is it revealed that tithes are not money in the Bible but Agricultural produce? The Lord Jesus Christ revealed it Matthew 23:23 KJV ”Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.”

He (Jesus Christ) said they pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, He didn’t say they “pay tithe of every mite or cent” because mite or cent is money during His earthly ministry – Mark 12:41 – 42 “And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.”

The mite, also known as a lepton, was a Jewish coin and the smallest used in New Testament time. At the time of Mark’s writing, it was worth 1/64 of a denarius. A denarius was a day’s wage for a common worker. In today’s terms, it would be worth about 1/8 of a cent. Mite is money.

There is a clear and complete difference between “ mint” and “mite”. From Matthew 23:23 , ”mint“ is Agricultural product and from Mark 12:41 – 42, ”mite” is money .

The mint and anise and cumin in Matthew 23:23 are not currency (money) but they are all foodstuffs (Agricultural products). Anise and cummin were used as spices for the flavoring of foods even up till date. This practice is still common today.

The above scripture (Malachi 3: 8-10) is the most popular money making twisted scripture by the prosperity gospel preachers/pastors to mean money and to make money.  They never tell their congregations that the tithes mentioned in Malachi 3: 8-10 were Agricultural produce – it is never money! They twisted Malachi 3: 8-10 for money!

This scripture (Malachi 3:8-10) is used by the prosperity gospel pastors to make money from the church members through the payment of money tithes.

The scripture has been twisted, manipulated, misinterpreted, misapplied and abused to cajole, scam, defraud and swindle of poor Nigerian Christians in the church. It has been used to put the spirit of fear in their life if they don’t pay the money tithes!

However, I am neither condemned nor against the payment of money tithes but condemn and against the twist, manipulation, misinterpretation, misapplication and abuse of MALACHI 3:8-10 to make money from the poor church members in order to fund the opulent/flamboyant lifestyles of the General Overseers and their senior pastors of the prosperity gospel churches .

The exact target of prosperity gospel churches is to generate funds from the money tithes for the headquarters where the office of the General Overseer is located. But the responsibility of the local parish pastor supposes to be to the congregation rather than to a central church authority (headquarters), which of course did not exist as it does today as all the money tithes go to the headquarters in the prosperity gospel church. And in the end too little (meager) amount that is nothing to write home about is returned to the local parish as a rebate from the headquarters (control center/ command center)!

I will rather defend the word of God in truth than the name of pastor because God Himself magnifies His word above His Name – Psalms  138:2 KJV “… for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.”

The Headquarters of the prosperity gospel church in Nigeria does not sustain the satellite branches/parishes with low church attendance because they are expected to be self sustaining and contributing, generating money (funds) from the payment of money tithes to the Headquarters’ purse so that the flamboyant lifestyles of the General Overseers and their senior pastors will be sustained like maintaining all General Overseer’s automobiles and private jets.

It is true that God does not need their money in Heaven but the General Overseer needs their money (tithes) for him and his family to live in opulence and enjoying flamboyant lifestyle here on earth.

Money tithes are needed to finance/fund the life of luxury of the General Overseers and their senior pastors at the expense of the poor church members. They are flying in private jets while the lives of the church members smell abject poverty.

The prosperity gospel pastors need money tithes to live big at the expense of their church members. As mentioned earlier, the potent weapon used to get money from the deceived and gullible members is the threat of fear that any Christians defaulting payment of their tithes will not make heaven!

Once again! I will rather defend the word of God in truth than the name of pastor because God Himself magnifies His word above His Name – Psalms  138:2 KJV “… for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.”

But in the New Testament during the early church which is the standard for the true church of Jesus Christ on earth, the poor satellite churches/local parishes are supported from the headquarters:  Acts 11:27 – 30 NKJV “And in these days prophets came from Jerusalem to Antioch.  Then one of them, named Agabus, stood up and showed by the Spirit that there was going to be a great famine throughout all the world, which also happened in the days of Claudius Caesar. Then the disciples, each according to his ability, determined to send relief to the brethren dwelling in Judea. This they also did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.”

It was at this city of Antioch, that the word “Christians” first mentioned and appeared in the Bible which is the good example for all the true Christians to follow to help the poor church: Acts 11:26 NKJV “And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.”

The outbreak of  COVID – 19 ( coronavirus disease pandemic ) exposed how billions of money flows into church as enlightenmentafrica.com carried the news in Kenya: “The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops has said that they have lost over 8 billion as tithes and offerings since the government closed churches.”

Many people out there who are in position to help may not help Christians who are in need or lack during the COVID – 19 general lockdown with false mindset that the church has taken care of all the members of the church from the money tithes.

As I mentioned before the responsibility of the local parish pastor supposes to be to the congregation rather than to a central church authority (headquarters), which of course did not exist as it does today as all the money goes to the headquarters in the prosperity gospel church.

Church money is a public fund and there is no accountability of how the money is being spent in the church. In Nigerian churches, there is no accountability from the General Overseers or pastors to ordinary church members on money that comes to the church – the General Overseers/pastors are not answerable to the church members on the church money that comes from them (the members).

All I am saying is that they don’t give account to all the church members on how their money (money of the church members) is being spent (no accountability)! And because it is a slave camp of Christianity (master-slave mentality system of Christianity) that is in operation in Nigeria; no ordinary church member has any right to question the authority of the General Overseer/pastor to give account of how the church money is being spent!

The money from the church members are used by the General Overseers and their senior pastors to access the best medical services, even in overseas but ordinary church members die cheaply of simple sicknesses / illnesses that would have been treated and healed by accessing quality medical services in the hospitals; rather the church members will be told to buy anointing oil, praying and fasting for the healing of the sickness that can be easily treated by the medical doctors as the church is not ready to release the money for the poor member who requires the services of the medical doctors. This is the trait of practice of the slave camp model of Christianity in operation in Nigerian Churches.

The money from the church members is used to provide tight security and high level protocols services for the General Overseers and their senior pastors but the church members are asked to continue fasting and praying for their own divine security and protection to come from God.

All these things are the characteristics of the practice of a slave trade system which are evident in Nigerian church – and nobody in the church can question the authority of the General Overseers and their senior pastors, even no single influential personality from the church council (the highest decision making body) of the constituted authority of the church can stand up to speak against this evil practice in Christianity in Nigeria.

As church money is being used to fund the flamboyant lifestyles of the prosperity gospel pastors, the church member will be labeled as a rebel for speaking against it!  The minds and hearts of the church members have been conditioned to worshipping pastors.

The reality is that majority of Nigerian Christians in Nigerian Churches are worshipping General Overseers/pastors – and NOT God. They worship highly anointed man of God instead of worshipping God. They have been brainwashed that subservience to the General Overseers is to God.

In the kingdom of God, all the true children of God (the genuinely born again) are priests and kings (Revelation 1:6 and Revelation 5:10) and there should be equal treatment of the church members in Christianity because all of us are brethren including the General Overseers and the senior pastors in the sight of God (Matthew 23:8). All of us the child of God – the General Overseer/pastor is not a schoolmaster to any true child of God as all of us are the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus: Galatians 3:25-26 KJV “:But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.  For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.”

MALACHI 3:8-10

If you study Malachi 3:8-10 carefully through the help of the Holy Spirit Who is the best teacher,  you will discover that God was taking to the priests who were devouring , stealing and using the tithes that were made for the needs of the widows, orphans, destitute, homeless, the poor, etc for their  (priests ) own personal use.

They (the priests) did not use the tithes for the needs of the poor and needy – for the vulnerable in the temple as God instructed them in the Old Testament under the Law of Moses. And this is exactly what is happening in Nigerian prosperity gospel churches where the General Overseers and their senior pastors are using the tithes and offerings of their church members (1) for their own flamboyant lifestyles and (2) for the building of their own empires instead of using the tithes and offerings to take care of the poor and needy in the church to the point that there would be no one lacking in the church as it was in the early church in Acts 2: 44 – 45 and Acts 4:32 – 35.

ALL THE BORN AGAIN CHRISTIANS ARE PRIESTS

Levites and priests were tied to the sacrificial system of the old covenant. Levites received the tithes from other eleven (11) tribes: Numbers 18:21 KJV “And, behold, I (God) have given the children of Levi all the tenth in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation.” But now all believers are priests.

In the Old Testament under the Law of Moses, the priests were receiving the payment of tithes as people brought their tithes (Agricultural produce) to them since they were not given land as an inheritance. They were to serve in the temple – to represent people in the presence of God. The other eleven (11) tribes did bring their tithes to the Levites under the Levitical priesthood in the Levitical cities.

But these General Overseers and their senior pastors apart from owning landed properties  run series of business – schools, book shops, printing, hospitals, airlines, transport service, broadcasting, real estate, farming, Agribusiness, etc which the poor church members are denied of the full benefits.

But in the New Testament which is under New Testament Covenant, all the genuinely born again Christians are priests – 1 Peter 2:9 KJV, Revelation 1:6 KJV, Revelation 5:10 KJV and Revelation 20:6 KJV: But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light….. And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen……..And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth…. Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.”

Based on theses Scriptures (1 Peter 2:9 KJV, Revelation 1:6 KJV, Revelation 5:10 KJV and Revelation 20:6 KJV), then here the critical thinking question goes: are genuinely born again ministers who qualified as priests suppose to pay tithes in the New Testament? Are genuinely born again Christians who are also qualified as priests suppose to pay tithes in the New Testament?

Tithes were given to the Levites and priests, but there are no Levites and priests of the Old Testament under the Law of Moses in the New Testament covenant. Levites and priests were tied to the sacrificial system of the old covenant. Now all believers are priests (1 Peter 2:9; Revelation 1:6; 5:10; 20:6), with Jesus as our Melchizedek, the high priest (Hebrews 7). This is one of the reasons why tithing is not required today even for the believers. Why the doctrine of any genuinely born again Christian defaulting payment of the tithes will not make heaven in the New Testament of the Bible?

But I don’t condemn the payment of tithes (tithing) as long as it is being used to take care of the needs of the poor in the church so that there is nobody lacking as it was in the early (first) church – there is an even distribution. The early (first) church made a proper and judicious use of money.

Once again for clarity of my own opinion, I am not against the payment of tithes but only against its wrong use in any form as tithing helps establish a system of financial support for God’s spiritual purposes.

The tithes are to be used to help the poor and the needy, pay the pastors, pay other church support staff working in the church, support the missionaries and their families in the mission field, to run evangelism programs, and run other church activities that require money.

Tithes (and offerings) are not to be used to buy private jets and sponsor (fund) the opulent and flamboyant lifestyles of the General Overseers and their senior pastors with their families.  The wrong use of tithes (and offering) in any form is one of the errors of the prosperity gospel in Nigeria and Africa at large. The error of wrong use of tithes (and offering) in any form is a major error in Nigerian prosperity gospel church.

The proper use of tithes (and offerings) should be in line with all what the Lord Jesus Christ said in Matthew 25: 32 – 46 KJV “And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:  Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.  Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?  When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?  Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?  And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I (Jesus Christ) say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me (Jesus Christ). Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:  For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:  I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.  Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?  Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I (Jesus Christ)  say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me (Jesus Christ).  And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.”

ABUSE OF POWER OF INSTRUMENTALITY OF PROSPERITY GOSPEL

Prosperity gospel is the same thing as the prosperity good news. And prosperity gospel is one of the benefits of the gospel of the kingdom of God. What is instrumentality of prosperity gospel in Christianity? Instrumentality of prosperity gospel (good news) in Christianity is a teaching which serves as a means to a perversion of the gospel of Jesus that says bring your money to receive the blessings of God by faith. The instrumentality (false teaching) of increase in faith will result in increase in health, riches (money) and wealth.

The instrumentality of prosperity gospel is to cajole, defraud, swindle and scam the church members of their hard earned money.

Being a pastor is the closest calling to mercy and one of the closest to God to care for the souls of the poor and needy in the society. The gospel of the kingdom of God that the Lord Jesus Christ commissioned us to preach, it is not for sale! It is not the money-making industry/Jesus Industry/Bless You Nigeria Limited: Matthew 10:7- 8 KJV  “And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.  Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.”

Prosperity gospel is one the benefits of the kingdom of God. The prosperity gospel has power. The instrumentality of prosperity gospel makes Christianity attractive. The abuse of power of instrumentality of prosperity gospel leads to transactional Christianity instead of transformational Christianity that helps a personal walk and intimate relationship with God. Doctrine of money answers everything is a scam in Christianity!!!
