DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE HOLY SPIRIT AND HIS POWER (THE HOLY GHOST POWER)
Many Christians don’t know and understand that there is a difference between the Holy Spirit and His power (the Holy Ghost power). Some mixed the two together and confused them together as well.
In the book of Luke chapter nine (9), the Lord Jesus Christ gave His twelve (12) apostles power to perform miracles, signs and wonders – power to cast out demons and power for healings but this power is not the Holy Ghost power – Luke 9:1 KJV “Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.”
Why it is not the Holy Ghost power is because the Lord Jesus Christ had not been glorified. He (Jesus Christ) had not gone to the cross of Calvary to die, be buried and on the third day resurrected. And most importantly, the Holy Spirit had not been given to the apostles and they never endued with the Holy Ghost power from above.
They received the Holy Spirit after the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ and as well as endued with the Holy Ghost power from above: John 20:21-22 KJV “Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost.” Here the apostles received the Holy Spirit. They received the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit.
Read Luke 24:49 KJV and Acts 1:8 KJV “And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high….. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” It is after the resurrection of Jesus Christ that they received the Holy Ghost power which took place on the day of Pentecost, that is, the infilling power of the Holy Ghost – the Holy Ghost upon.
In the book of Luke chapter ten, the power the Lord Jesus Christ gave the disciples of seventy (70) was not the Holy Ghost power – Luke 10:1, 17, 19 KJV “After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come…And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name…Behold, I (Jesus Christ) give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
There is a difference between the Holy Spirit and His power (the Holy Ghost power). The power of the Holy Spirit is known as the Holy Ghost power – Acts 10:38 “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”
The Holy Spirit is the third person of God in the Godhead of the Holy Trinity.
What is power?
Power is the ability or capacity to do something or act in a particular way.
Therefore the power of the Holy Spirit is what He does. The Holy Ghost power is the power of the Holy Spirit by which He (the Holy Spirit) does, controls, directs and influences everything of God.
The presence of the Holy Spirit is Himself. The presence of the Holy Spirit is present/resident as indwelling presence of Him in the life of every born again Christian- the Holy Spirit within.
This indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit is what makes any true Christian believer greater than Satan the devil in the world – 1 John 4:4 KJV “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he (Satan) that is in the world.” Satan is the prince of this world – John 14:30 KJV “…for the prince of this world…”
God’s message comes from God and is authorized by the power of the Holy Spirit (the Holy Ghost power).
Every true Christian believer is approved and confirmed by the presence of the Holy Spirit – Romans 8:14 KJV “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”
The power of the Holy Spirit (the Holy Ghost power) has capacity or ability to change our circumstances and situations while the presence of the Holy Spirit does change our heart when we allow Him.
As we have the fruit of the Spirit (the Holy Spirit) and gifts of the Holy Spirit so is the power of the Holy Spirit.
The power of the Holy Spirit comes upon you as the infilling power of the Holy Spirit while the presence of the Holy Spirit dwells within you as the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Ghost power is for service and helps us to be effective in our individual callings or ministries.
The Holy Spirit confirms that we are saved immediately we are born again, that is, the indwelling presence of Holy Spirit is for salvation. The presence of the Holy Spirit seals our salvation – Ephesians 1:13 KJV “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,” You are in Christ and Christ in you – Colossians 1:27 KJV “To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
The Holy Ghost power gives us the capacity to do God’s work. The presence of the Holy Spirit in a genuinely born again Christian makes Satan the devil fear and respect us. The presence of the Holy Spirit helps us to become the sanctuary of God.
Once the Holy Spirit leaves any Christian, such a Christian is finished because he would become bread and butter in the hands of Satan – Matthew 12:43-45 KJV ”When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.” The presence of the Holy Spirit helps us to become what God wants us to become in life – to fulfill His purpose in our lives..,”
The indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit within us makes us different from the Old Testament believers because nobody in the Old Testament had the Holy Spirit dwelling inside them. The indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit makes the least of the New Testament Christian believers to be greater than the greatest of the Old Testament saint – Luke 7:28 KJV “For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”
The indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit in the life of a genuinely born again Christian makes us become the temple of God in the New Testament – 1 Corinthians 3:16 KJV and 1 Corinthians 6:19 KJV “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?….. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?”
The Holy Ghost power is the power upon every Christian believer. Ît is the infilling power of the Holy Spirit upon the believer’s life – Acts 1:8 KJV “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
The Holy Ghost power provokes you to do exploits – the Holy Ghost power will stir and move you to do greater works – John 14:12 KJV “Verily, verily, I (Jesus Christ)say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” You need the Holy Ghost power to do greater works.
The indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit helps to manifest the nature of God/the character of God in believer’s life by the fruit of the Spirit – Galatians 5:22-23 KJV “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” By these components of the fruit of the Holy Spirit, the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit stills the Christian believers.
There are nine (9) gifts of the Holy Spirit by His power (the Holy Ghost power). It is the Holy Ghost that will trigger, activate, turn on the gifts of the Holy Spirit to manifest.
The presence of Holy Spirit refreshes, gives liberty and manifests the glory of God – Acts 3:19 KJV, 2 Corinthians 3:17 KJV and Colossians 1:27 KJV “…. the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord….Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty…Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
Delivering powerful Holy Spirit filled message is by the Holy Ghost power: 1 Corinthians 2:4 KJV “And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power.”
In principle, praise is by the Holy Ghost power, that is, the Holy Ghost power inspires praise as God dwells in the praise of His people (the Christian believers) – Psalms 22:3 KJV “But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.”
In principle, the presence of the Holy Spirit loves, moves and inspires worship – 1 Corinthians 14:25 KJV “And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.”
To access and make use the Holy Ghost power, there must always be the presence of the Holy Spirit. The presence of the Holy Spirit makes available the Holy Ghost power. The gateway or the key to the Holy Ghost power is the presence of the Holy Spirit.
The power of the Holy Spirit is the power of God. The Holy Spirit also empowered men in the Old Testament to bring about God’s will. This manifestation of the power of the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament was only by the Holy Spirit upon (not within).
The Holy Spirit’s power helps the Christian believers to spread the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ around the world.
