4 TYPES OF CHRISTIANITY IN FULL PRACTICE IN NIGERIA IDENTIFIED – Know the most Pastorpreneur!!!

Four (4) types of Christianity are in full practice in Nigeria:

  • Brainwashed Christianity or slave Christianity (slave system): This is where members have no voice or right to speak out against unbiblical / unchristian/unscriptural practices of General Overseers/Pastors in the church. In this type of Christianity in the denominational church, it is believed that that the church members can only reach God or get help from God through only the General Overseer or pastor as a medium or middle man. In this type of Christianity in the church, the General Overseers / Pastors own the minds of the church members. The General Overseer makes everyone depends on him as a medium or middle man to reach God for them. The General Overseer sees the church members as his own property. It is transactional relationship in place which is people go to the particular denominational church because of what they can get from God in terms of miracles, signs and wonders through their General Overseer  or pastor who stands  as a middleman between them and God. Everything depends on General Overseer. The ardent followers never see their General Overseer/pastors as the same brethren with them as the Lord Jesus Christ said we are all brethren in Matthew 23:8, but rather they see their General Overseer/pastor as supreme “god of men”. They see their General Overseer as worshipple figure and they honor him with hero worship.  They see him (the General Overseer) as the second in command to God which is the greatest doctrinal error/practice in the body of Christ (church).
  • Profitable money making business Christianity : This is where everything is money in the church . It is plantation Christianity structured with business mindset. Church is for business to make money, in fact, it is business centre because all the church activities point to and focus on business to make profit. The pastors here are mere pastor-preneur money maker pastors. Who is a Pastorpreneur? Pastorpreneur is an entrepreneur who sets up churches as a business venture.
  • Family business empire Christianity: This is where the church system set up is for the General Overseer / Founder and his family. The church system is created and structured for the children to succeed the founder (their father). And it is denominational church family business empire.
  • The real Biblical Christianity: This is true Christianity. It is less than one percent (1%) in Nigeria where people go to church because they love God by living in total obedience to God in righteousness and holiness.  In this type of Christianity in the church, people go to church to learn how to grow and develop love for God with all their heart, mind and strength; and to know how to love their neighbors as themselves. In their mind, the purpose of attending church is to have a personal walk and intimate relationship with God. They see their general Overseer / pastors as the same brethren with themselves. The poor members are given voice and right to speak out against any unbiblical/unchristian/unscriptural practices in the church. The General Overseer is accountable to them. The General Overseer / pastors are servants to the church members. In this type of Christianity in the church,  people just want to serve God – it is kingdom of God type of Christianity. This type of Christianity (the real Biblical Christianity) in the church is not found in prosperity gospel church at all! But all the first three types of Christianity in the church mentioned above are clearly seen and evident in Nigerian prosperity gospel churches. This type of church structure(the real Biblical Christianity) makes the church members discover and recover their God-ordained purpose for their individual lives – they help them to succeed in their respective spheres of influence outside the 4 corners of the walls of the church building. In this type of church, they value human capital development and empowerment than the church buildings as they know and understand that the church building is not rapurable but only the human beings are rapturable. They know and understand that God is not in buildings but in the lives of His people

Now let talk more on this: Human capacity development that I am talking about is the process by which the Church members develop their God-given abilities (potentials) – both individually and collectively – to set and achieve objectives, perform functions, solve problems and to develop the means and conditions required to enable individual members of the church to become what God had created them for.

Majority of Nigerian churches have woefully failed in this area. This human capacity development should be built around their purpose in life for which God created them. For this is where the need of the “big” churches is required to play their vital roles in helping average church members to fulfill their individual purposes in life, and the name of the Lord Jesus Christ will be more glorified.

Sadly, the Church has failed in this area. The failure of the Church in this area by giving high priority to building projects over human capacity development of average church members will be one of the little foxes of pastors killing and destroying Christianity in Africa, especially in Nigeria.

It should be known and understood that God is not in buildings but in the lives of His people. God is not in any mountain, any camp, any special building; God is not dwelling in any place but God dwells in the life of every genuinely born again Christian – the Holy Spirit lives inside every genuine believer – He resides in the body of every true believer. Every genuinely born again Christian is a carrier of the Holy Spirit; that is, a carrier of God!!!

Another crucial point is that when the rapture takes place, all their building projects on earth will die naturally and will be consumed in fire: 2 Peter 3:10 “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” This Scripture is telling us all the genuinely born again Christians that the Lord Jesus Christ is coming back for : the people, not for the buildings – it is people that the Lord Jesus is coming back for not a structure with a roof and walls. It is people that He will take back with Him to Heaven at rapture.

The greatest act of leadership is what happens in your absence as Apostle Paul built and developed human capital projects instead of building projects – Philippians 2:12  “Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence…..”

If everything you have done dies with you, you are a failure. Myles Munroe says “Jesus never invested in buildings, He invested in people”. He (Myles Munroe) said further that the greatest act of true leaders is what happens in their absence. True leaders make themselves unnecessary. The true leadership is measured by what happens after you die.  This is why true leaders do not invest in buildings, they invest in people. Why? Because while the Lord Jesus Christ was here on earth during His earthly ministry, He invested greatly in people, not in buildings!

Following the Lord Jesus’ way, these General Overseers’ legacy should not be in buildings, programs and projects, but their legacy must be in people, the members of their congregation.

Another good example is King David who invested in the people who were nobody and made them to become very important people who were very great, mighty and heroes: 1 Samuel 22:1-2 and 2 Samuel 23: 8-39 “David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father’s house heard it, they went down thither to him. And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men…….”

Look at 2 Samuel 23:8  “These be the names of the mighty men whom David had: The Tachmonite that sat in the seat, chief among the captains; the same was Adino the Eznite: he lift up his spear against eight hundred, whom he slew at one time……….” Look at David’s human investment in action, and there were with him about four hundred men, among whom some think were the three mighty men spoken of in 2 Samuel 23:13. Mighty men were mentioned (not mighty buildings). Human investment should be given priority over the construction of the largest or biggest buildings in the world. Human capital development projects should be given primary consideration over the construction of the gigantic church auditoriums that require millions or billions of dollars to build.

The GOs in Nigerian churches are unlike king David who invested in every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, discouraged, everyone who had lost hope – all these hopeless people gathered themselves unto him (David) and he (David) turned their lives around – he changed their destinies and helped them to fulfill the plans and purpose of God for their individual lives.

But rather African GOs, most especially Nigerian GOs have their main focus on building projects to be the most beautiful instead of all the lives of their church members to be the most attractive that shine the glory of the light of God because the Christians (people) are the salt and light of the world. Matthew 5:13-14 “Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.”  Buildings are not the salt of the earth and the light of the world.

In time of need, due to high level of protocol, the poor members of their churches have no easy physical direct access to them – they are gods that only the rich, wealthy and people in positions of authority can freely and easily access. When the Lord Jesus Christ was here on earth during His earthly ministry, the poor were able to reach and access Him freely and easily. Some of these GOs patronize these rich, wealthy members and people who are in positions of authority for financial gain, material gain and human and public recognition.

So the question is: If you die today or tomorrow as a General Overseer, what happens to your church? If it dies when you die, you are a failure as Myles Munroe said.

You are therefore encouraged to invest in people; invest your life for them. What happens in your absence, is your legacy. Think about it!!! The human capital development project is your legacy when you die.

The GOs should allow the Lord Jesus Christ to dwell in the heart of the church members instead of church building. Why? This is because God does not dwell in the building (temple) built or made with hands but God lives inside human being: Acts 7:47, Acts 17:24, 1 Corinthians 3:16, 1 Corinthians 6: 19 and 2 Corinthians 6:16 (biblehub.com) “But Solomon built him an house. Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet…. God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands……. Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?…..What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?…..And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.”

Nigerian Church is making what God called secondary primary – what God called minor major as the building is secondary and minor while human beings (people, the church members) are primary and major in the sight of God – Acts 17:24) “God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;”  God is highly interested in building people – and NOT the church buildings.

God the father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit dwell in human beings not in buildings – John 14:17,23 and 2 Timothy 1:14 “Even the Spirit of truth (The Holy Spirit); whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him (The Holy Spirit)  not, neither knoweth him (The Holy Spirit): but ye know him (The Holy Spirit): for he (The Holy Spirit) dwelleth with you (human being), and shall be in you (human being)…… Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me (Jesus), he will keep my words: and my Father (God) will love him, and we (God and Jesus) will come unto him (human being), and make our abode with him (human being)……. the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.”

FAILED CHURCH: PROSPERITY GOSPEL CHURCH

Since Christianity supposes to be the light of the world, the people that go to church are the reflection of the society the reason why Church has failed in Nigeria. Do not forget that Nigeria is the headquarters of the extreme poverty of the world. Why corruption is everywhere? Why is it that as the number of churches is increasing, so is the social vices are also increasing in Nigeria?

You are a product of information you are hearing constantly. We are the product of the information we are being constantly exposed to in the church as Christians. The government is the reflection of the people in the society. The people in government are the product of our society.  These people go to church.  The Christians in government are the product of the information they exposed to in the church.  The Nigerian politicians are not from another planet but from the nation, Nigeria; the politicians who are Christians in the government or in any position of authority are the church members of Nigerian churches. This failure of the church is as the result of the prosperity gospel in Nigeria. Prosperity gospel preachers have made almost Christians in Nigeria to be living in a very materialistic society today in the country.  In prosperity gospel church, the desire to satisfy their individual lusts and materialism is very high – and this is the reason why corruption is a monster in Nigeria. The worship of money culture has been introduced into the church in Nigeria by the prosperity gospel pastors/preachers. The pastor-preneur money maker pastors practice the worship of money culture in the churches.

The Christians who have contributed to insecurity, poor economy performance and corruption in Nigeria are being honored in the church because of their ill-gotten money brought to the church to fund the flamboyant life of the General overseers or pastors (“men of God”). The practice of true Christianity failed in Nigeria because of the failed church attributed to the prosperity gospel of pastor-preneur money maker pastors (the prosperity gospel preachers).
