3 TYPES OF PASTOR STATED IN THE BIBLE: WHICH ONE IS YOUR OWN?

In the Bible King James Version (KJV), the word “pastor” appeared nine (9) times – eight (8) times in Old Testament (in the book of Jeremiah) and one (1) time in the New Testament. The first time it is mentioned in the Old Testament  is in Jeremiah 2:8 KJV. The pastor in the Old Testament in the book of Jeremiah means “leader”, “ruler” or “shepherd”.

WHO IS A PASTOR?

A pastor is a shepherd of the sheep of God – 1 Peter 2:25  KJV “…..sheep ; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls……Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.” The chief Shepherd here is our Lord Jesus Christ while the pastor is also called a “Bishop”.

A pastor is a faithful steward –  Titus 1:7  KJV “For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre.”

A pastor is a manager of God’s resources and Jesus’ flock.

A pastor is a minister or priest in charge of a church; a person having spiritual care of a number of persons.

Pastor is the title given to leaders in protestant or non-denominational churches.

Pastor takes care of the spiritual needs and teachings of the flock.  He carries out administrative activities of the local parish (church) as well. He guides a congregation and provides spiritual nurture.

The pastor is the leader of the Christian congregation and serves as the shepherd that guides and provides spiritual advice to the members of the flock

In the early church, every elder is a pastor – Acts 20:17 KJV “And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the church.” Here, Paul calls the elders of the church of Ephesus to come to him.

Pastors are also referred to as Overseers who care for the church: Acts 20:17, 28 KJV “And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the church…Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.”

As  pastor is a faithful steward of God, he is at the same time the minister of Christ – 1 Corinthians 4:1 – 2 KJV  “Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.”

Therefore, pastor is referred to as shepherd, steward, minister, elder, bishop and overseer in the New Testament. Pastor is also known as the servant of God.

3 TYPES OF PASTOR

3 types of pastor are mentioned in the Bible. They are:

(1) Charlatan pastor

(2)  Bad pastor

(3) Faithful and wise pastor

CHARLATAN PASTOR

First and foremost, this type of pastor is not born again. He is not saved.

Since you cannot give what you don’t have, therefore he is not into ministry of winning souls, for people to be genuinely born again. He loves fame, money and at times women.

The scripture referred to him as wicked servant. The wicked in the Bible refers to the sinner whom God is angry with always as he will never obey and do the will of God – he always disobeys the word of God – Psalms 7:11 KJV  “God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.’

In the Bible, most especially in the New Testament, pastor is also known as the servant of God. This charlatan pastor is a wicked servant which means that he is a wicked pastor.

This wicked servant is also described as the evil servant by our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, the wicked pastor is also the evil pastor. This means that the charlatan pastor is an evil pastor!

As mentioned above, know and understand that a pastor is also referred to as the servant of God. A pastor is called the servant of God because he is the manager of all the resources of the household of God. These resources include human beings, that is, the church members, congregants – everything and everyone that made up the congregation of the church of God..

The Lord Jesus Christ told a parable of two servants (the faithful and wise servant and the evil servant) in the book of Matthew. Let us read:
Matthew 24:45-51 KJV  “Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Remember that pastor mentioned in the book of Jeremiah in the Old Testament is also known a ruler (the term that Jesus Christ used in this parable).

In the above parable by Jesus Christ, the two (2) mentioned  are pastors: one is a faithful and wise servant while the other one is an evil servant. This evil servant is the same as a wicked servant. The evil servant is the evil pastor. “The lord” used and described in this parable is the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. The household means the church of God, that is, the Christian believers.

The two (2) servants were made the rulers over his household, to give them (the fellow servants) meat in due season. The two rulers are pastors to feed the other fellow servants with meat in due season. The other fellow servants represent the church members. That is, the two pastors are to feed the church members with meat in due season.

The meat means the word of God – Hebrews 5:12-14  KJV “For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”

But the evil servant maltreated his fellow servants – that is, the evil pastor (the wicked pastor) maltreated his church members. And his lord (the lord of the servant) cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth – that is the lord qualified him as the hypocrite (unbeliever – the wicked – the sinner) and he was thrown into hell/ lake of fire which is his portion with the hypocrites (sinners) as he was not saved.

Therefore, the charlatan pastor is not saved (not genuinely born again). The charlatan pastor is the evil pastor or wicked pastor in the vineyard of God; the evil servant in this parable of Jesus Christ.

The charlatan pastor (false shepherd) is not feeding the lamb and sheep of Jesus Christ but the lamb and sheep are feeding the charlatan pastor (false shepherd) in contrary to the Lord Jesus Christ’s commands/instructions –  John 21:15-17  KJV “. …Jesus saith….Feed my lambs.
He saith to him again the second time, .…., Feed my sheep. He saith .,,.the third time,…Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.”
The “lambs” means the new converts while the sheep means the mature Christian believers.

The charlatan pastor destroys the vineyard of God – Jeremiah 12:10  KJV “Many pastors have destroyed my vineyard…” How? The sheep feed the shepherd (the charlatan pastor) – he (charlatan pastor) destroys and devours the sheep.

The charlatan pastor scatters and destroys the vineyard of God (the church ) by brainwashing and manipulating the lamb and the sheep to feed him in term of scamming, swindling and defrauding them of their hard earned money – Jeremiah 23:1-2  KJV “Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the LORD. Therefore thus saith the LORD God of Israel against the pastors that feed my people; Ye have scattered my flock, and driven them away, and have not visited them: behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, saith the LORD.”

The book of Jeremiah explains the charlatan pastor very well and clearly: Jeremiah 5:26-28 KJV *For among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men. As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxen rich. They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.” This scripture says they catch men, they become great and waxen rich – they are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they prosper!

According to this scripture, their traps catch small and big, poor and rich, female and male, etc to scam, swindle, and defraud the church members of their hard earned money!

The Charlatan pastor is in the church ministries primarily for money making. He sets up the church structure/system with business mindset – church is business mindset. Church is for business to make money. In fact, church is business center because all the church activities point to and focus on business to make profit in terms of material and financial benefits/gains. It is Jesus industry for the charlatan pastor. The Charlatan pastor monetizes the Name of Jesus for profit making, to acquire, possess riches and wealth.

The charlatan pastor twists, manipulates scripture(s) to make money.  They are very perfect in twisting the scriptures that that lead to the brainwashing and manipulation of the church members. They are in the pastoral ministry not to serve our Lord Jesus Christ but their own belly –  Romans 16:17-18 KJV “Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple” “The simple” in this scripture meansthe naive and gullible (easy to fool) Christians”.

The charlatan pastor uses FEAR practice on the church members to make himself unapproachable and unquestionable.

Jude 1:12-13, 16, 19 KJV describes the nature of the charlatan pastors further.

The charlatan pastor is into the activity of brainwashing to make merchandise of the church members –  2 Peter 2:3 KJV “And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.”  This is how New Living Translation puts it: 2 Peter 2:3 NLT “In their greed they will make up clever lies to get hold of your money. But God condemned them long ago, and their destruction will not be delayed.”

In order to achieve this, he is into misinterpretation and misapplication of the scripture(s) – he is very skillful in twisting the scripture(s) to brainwash the naive and gullible (easily deceived) Christians thereby scamming, swindling and defrauding them of their hard earned money through the use of deceptive words.

The charlatan pastor has money making scriptures he always use to scam the naive and gullible (easy to fool) Christians).

He is money focused pastor or money making pastor. All the charlatan pastors are commercial pastors. They are all prosperity gospel pastors!

The charlatan pastor replaces the place of the Holy Spirit in the life of a true Christian believer by telling him or her to sow “seed faith” to God in order to provoke God for blessings. This type of pastor who is a lover of money does not and will never allow the leading of the Holy Spirit in the lives of the Christian believers.

The charlatan pastor is into the ministry of “bring your money for God to bless you.” All the naive and gullible church members fall cheaply to the activities of the charlatan pastor.

The entire charlatan pastors compromise the word of God in righteousness and holiness for the gospel of bring your money for God to bless you or to receive blessings from God. They use money making scriptures to manipulate and brainwash their church members. They have  enthroned the god of mammon in their churches as they have turned the church into business center for money making.

The word of God is two-edged sword –  one for the righteous and the other one for the unrighteous! Therefore I counsel all the charlatan pastors to repent before God visits them with His wrath of judgment.

The charlatan pastors are the pulpit bandits.

                       BAD PASTOR

This kind of pastor started well with God. He was saved – he is genuinely born again at the initial stage of his Christian life but along the way, he is off track, backslidden and left the faith.

This type of pastor fell into error but he has a choice to come back like the prodigal son. He could be corrected and restored into the fruitful and faithful ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ.

This bad pastor builds wood, hay, straw/stubble on the Apostolic foundation of the rock of the word of God –  1 Corinthians 3:12-15 KJV “Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.”

This scripture quoted above is saying that this type of pastor (the bad pastor) started well with Christ, he was genuinely born again – genuinely saved but along the way in his Christian journey of life, he left the faith – he stopped following the dictates of the teaching of the Lord Jesus Christ, in fact, he departs from the ministry of the word of God – Acts 6:4 KJV “But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.” He changed his mind to discontinue giving himself to the ministry of the word of God.

All his work will not survive the righteous judgment of God if repents at the point of death but if he doesn’t, he is lost forever in eternity in the lake of fire 1 Corinthians 3:15 KJV  ”If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.”

If he doesn’t repeat, he will forever go in the way of the charlatan pastor! I believe if he was genuinely born again before he backslid and departed from the faith, he would repent and come back to God like the prodigal son, even like the apostle Peter who denied and forsook the Lord Jesus Christ on His way to the cross of Calvary to die for the sin of the world but Peter repented, forsook his sin and he came back to Jesus for life.

The bad pastor was deceived by the prosperity gospel. And as a result of this, he departed from the undiluted, pure word of God; from the sound doctrine of the Word in his pastoral ministry.

Some of these bad pastors got occult (evil) power to operate their pastoral ministry. Some of them cannot wait for God’s time to manifest them to the public.

As a result of backsliding (falling away),the bad pastor never builds up the church of God in righteousness and holiness with the pure word of God based on revelation, knowledge, prophecy and doctrine as it is evident in the life of Apostle Paul and his ministry – 1 Corinthians 14:6 KJV “…., I (Apostle Paul) shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine…” By prophesying is to say what the word of God says through the leading and manifestations (auction) of the Holy Spirit to the church member(s).

This bad pastor was genuinely saved (truly born again) at the beginning when he had a born again experience with Christ but he departed from the word of God as the Apostle Paul explained in 1 Timothy 5:19-20 KJV “Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses.Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.” The word “elder” in this scripture is also to mean “pastor–  Titus 1:5  KJV  and James 5:14 KJV “For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee……Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:”

Pastors do sin but if they refuse to repent, that is, they choose not to repent – and they continue to live unrepentant lifestyle, then they have gone in the way of the charlatan pastors heading to perish eternally (in eternity).

FAITHFUL AND WISE PASTOR

This type of pastor is very few. They are genuinely born again – they are saved and heavenly focused and conscious.

They give themselves continually to the prayer and ministry of the word of God – Acts 6:4 KJV “But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.”

The faithful and wise pastors feed both the lambs and sheep. They follow and obey the dictates of the teaching of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The faithful and wise pastors are mentioned in the parable of the Lord Jesus Christ earlier discussed above in Matthew 24:45-47 KJV “Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?  Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.”

The faithful and wise pastors feed their church members (congregation) with meat in due season. That is, unlike the wicked pastor, he is a good minister of Jesus Christ nourished in the word in order to download it in teaching to his church members – 1 Timothy 4:6 KJV “If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.”

This faithful and wise pastor obeys the commands/instructions of the Lord Jesus Christ to feed both the lambs (the new converts) and sheep (mature Christian believers) John 21:15-17  KJV “. …Jesus saith….Feed my lambs. He saith to him again the second time, .…., Feed my sheep. He saith .,,.the third time,…Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.”

The faithful and wise pastor builds up the church of God in righteousness and holiness with the pure word of God based on revelation, knowledge, prophecy and doctrine as it is evident in the life of Apostle Paul  and his ministry 1 Corinthians 14:6 KJV “…., I (Apostle Paul) shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine…”

Remember that by prophesying is to say what the word of God says through the leading and  manifestations (auction) of the Holy Spirit to the church member(s).

The faithful and wise pastors are after the God’s heart just exactly likes King David – they immediately repent, confess and forsake any sin committed or an error they fall into. And they pray for the special grace not to repeat the sin again. They desire always to live righteous and holy.

They are never into brainwashing, misinterpretation and misapplication of the scripture(s) – they don’t twist scripture to scam, swindle, defraud of the church members of their hard earned money. They don’t make merchandise of the church members

They are like the apostle Paul who did not twist scripture(s) for his own material and financial benefits/gains but to develop personal walk and intimate relationship with God – and primarily winning souls for the kingdom of God:2 Peter 3:15-16 KJV “And account that the long suffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest (twist), as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.”

They destroy the cancer of plague of silence and conspiracy of silence in the body of Christ by exposing, rebuking and reproving the unfruitful works of darkness: Ephesians 5:11 KJV “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.”

They are more concerned about the number of their church members they are leading to Heaven rather the attendance of multitude of crowd who are seeking after the miracles, signs and wonders. The miracle seekers seek after material and financial prosperity at the expense of living a life of righteousness and holiness.

They don’t stand as a medium or middle man between their church members and God because they have a good understanding that the Lord Jesus Christ is the only mediator between men and God – 1 Timothy 2:5 KJV  “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”

By the word of God, they grow and develop their church members to have a personal walk and intimate relationship with God – to know and understand God by the word more than the way they know their pastor/General Overseer.

God will generously reward this faithful and wise pastor as faithful and wise servant – Matthew 24:46-47 KJV “Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.”

This faithful and wise servant is the type of servant of God that every true, genuine pastor aspires to be. He shall be rewarded as good and faithful servant: Matthew 25:21 KJV “His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”
