21ST CENTURY CHRISTIANS AND CHURCH MINISTRY – “Challenges and Solutions”

Written by onetruth

21ST CENTURY CHRISTIANS AND CHURCH MINISTRY – “Challenges and Solutions”

The ministry is to reconcile man back to God in Christ Jesus with the purpose of having a personal walk and intimate relationship with Him – 2 Corinthians 5:18 – 20 “And all things ar] of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.”

There are challenges to church ministry of reconciliation in 21st Century. And we shall look at some of them.

(1) FAMINE OF THE TEACHING MINISTRY:

This is the number one challenge to church ministry in 21st Century. The body of Christ (the church) needs true teachers of the word. Many churches in the body of Christ have been hijacked by pastors/General Overseers. Many pastors are destroying the vineyard of God – Jeremiah 12:10 KJV  “Many pastors have destroyed my vineyard, they have trodden my portion under foot, they have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.”

A lot of brainwashing, misinterpretation and misapplication of the word of God are the order of the day. This is a big challenge to ministry in 21st Century.  This has made it possible to merchandise the gullible, naïve Christians.

Instead of pastors (shepherds) to be feeding the lambs ( new converts) and sheep (mature Christian believers), it is the lambs and sheep that are feeding the pastors (shepherds) in contrary to the word of our Lord Jesus Christ: John 21:15-16  So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.”

Many pastors in the ministry are after money they can get from their church members. They have special skills to twist scriptures in order to cajole, scam, swindle and defraud the church members of their hard earned money. They have packaged and arranged miracles, signs and wonders to brainwash and deceive the gullible, naive and easily fooled/deceived Christians. They are in the ministry in 21st Century NOT to our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly – their God is their belly, that is, church is business – they are pastorpreneurs: Romans 16:18 KJV and Philippians 3:19 KJV “For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple….. Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.”

Who is a pastorpreneur?
Pastorpreneur  is an entrepreneur who sets up churches as a business venture. This is a big challenge to ministry in 21st Century because people are influenced by the information (messages) they are exposed to from the pulpit – and they are many pastors who are destroying the vineyard of God as pulpit bandits. As we are having proliferation of the churches, so is the increase in crimes and lack of Bible moral values in the society.

This challenge is a reality facing 21st Century Christianity because of lack of the true Bible Teachers – that is, the evidence of the presence of famine of the teaching ministry in the body of Christ.

The solution is to pray to God to raise true Bible Teachers in teaching ministry for His church in 21st Century.

(2) Lack of stewardship in being faithful to the word of God:

This is another challenge to ministry in 21st Century.  This is on the part of the ministers of Christ. All the ministers of Christ (all the pastors) are to be the stewards of the mysteries of God to the Christians: 1 Corinthians 4:1 KJV “Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.”

But this is lacking in ministry in 21stCentury to find almost all the pastors/General Overseers to be the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.

How many ministers of Christ are the stewards of the mysteries of God in Church ministry in 21st Century?  How many ministers of Christ are faithful stewards to the word of God without manipulating, twisting and misapplying the pure word of God (sound doctrine) because it is required in stewards, that every minister of Christ be found faithful –  1 Corinthians 4:2  KJV “Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.”

Good and faithful servants of God are lacking in Christianity in 21stCentury – these good and faithful servants (ministers) are the only titles in Heaven as nothing like apostles, prophets, evangelists, and pastors in Heaven – Matthew 25:21 KJV “His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”

How many ministers of Christ by studying individually with the help of the Holy Spirit (the best teacher) can show themselves approved unto God for the purpose of rightly dividing the whole Bible from the books of Genesis to the books of Revelation? All the ministers of Christ are expected to rightly divide the whole Bible for the understanding of the Christians – it is a command from God through His word of truth: 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

The solution to this challenge is all the ministers of Christ (pastors) should be faithful stewards to the mysteries of God and should be able to rightly divine the word of truth from the books of Genesis to the books of Revelation. The ministers of Christ are only ordained to preach and teach the doctrine of Christ: 2 John 1:9-10 KJV “Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed.” The doctrine of Christ is all about the truth of Jesus Christ and having a personal walk and intimate relationship with God.

(3) The “god of men” in the ministry

The presence of “god of men” in the church is a huge challenge to the ministry in 21st Century. These are fake men of God as they are “god of men” – and NEVER “men of God”. They are false apostles ( the apostles of Satan) appearing as the angels of light in the church – 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 KJV “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.”

They are causing a lot of damages to the body of Christ (the church) in ministry in this 21st Century. They use miracles, signs and wonders as cover up. Even some genuinely born again Christians have been deceived by their miracles, signs and wonders in line with the end-time prophecy of our Lord Jesus Christ – Matthew 24:24 KJV “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.”

These “god of men” are false miracle workers – they are ravening wolves  in sheep’s clothing:  Matthew 7:15  KJV “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.”

The Christians who are miracle seekers will never discern to detect and discover them as FALSE men of God (god of men) because miracles, signs and wonders will blindfold them to know. They are false Christs. No human being can know them through the miracles, signs and wonders but only through their fruits (character), you shall know them – Matthew 7:16, 20-23 KJV “Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”

The solution to this challenge is very simple: it is by their fruits you shall know them as you can never know them by miracles, signs and wonders.

(4) A WICKED AND ADULTEROUS GENERATION TYPE OF CHRISTIANS

This is the most dangerous type of challenge to ministry in 21st Century because they are the ones that make charlatan pastors, pastorpreneurs, god of men (FALSE men of God), false Christs, etc, to thrive, flourish, prosper .

The Lord Jesus Christ warned us against a wicked and adulterous generation type of Christians: Matthew 16:4  KJV and Matthew 12:39  KJV “A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed…But he (Jesus Christ) answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas”

They pose a major threat to Church ministry in 21st century as they are many seekers looking for miracle workers in Christianity today.

The solution is to teach Christians NOT to be miracle seekers. It is important to let the Christian believers know that miracles, signs and wonders are to follow Christians – and NOT them to follow miracles, signs and wonders: Mark 16:17-18  KJV “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”

(5) DENOMINATIONAL CHURCH EVANGELISM PROJECT

This is another challenge to the ministry in 21st Century as majority of Christians especially in Nigeria believe in and strife for denominational church evangelism project.  Denominationalism by denominational churches most especially in Nigeria wants to build the biggest, the most beautiful worship center in the world by measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves – 2 Corinthians 10:12  KJV “For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.”

Their church evangelism is to steal and snatch another church members to their own church in order to exponentially increase in number not minding how many of their church members are on their way to Heaven. They lack the right understanding that the Lord Jesus Christ says that His church worldwide shall be one fold ( one flock) and one shepherd: John 10:16  KJV “And other sheep I (Jesus Christ) have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.” The two words” one fold ” means “one flock”.

Denominational church evangelism project is a challenge to ministry in 21st Century because it is causing a division in the body of Christ. There should be an understanding that every genuinely born again Christian no matter the denomination belongs to one body of Christ ( the church of our Lord Jesus Christ) worldwide as we are of one Lord (Jesus Christ), one faith,  one Spirit (the Holy Spirit) and one baptism into the body of Christ (the church) – Ephesians 4:5  KJV and  1 Corinthians 12:13 KJV “One Lord, one faith, one baptism….For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.” When we get to Heaven, we will never see denominational churches but one church of the saints of the Lord Jesus Christ called by “one flock, and one shepherd.”

The solution to the denominational church evangelism project posing challenge to ministry in 21st Century is to see every genuinely born again Christian as of one Lord (Jesus Christ), one faith,  one Spirit (the Holy Spirit) and one baptism into the body of Christ (the church) – one flock and one Shepherd – all of us are ONE: Acts 4:32  KJV “And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.”

(6) BIBLICAL ILLITERACY

For us to have a clear understanding of “Biblical illiteracy “, let us first define Biblical Literacy” .

The Biblical Literacy is the ability with the help of the Holy Spirit as the best teacher to individually rightly read, study and understand the Holy Bible in order to grow and develop a personal walk and intimate relationship with God. It is all about obeying what is read and studied in the Bible to help us individually reject sin and to make us reconcile others to Christ.

Biblical Literacy helps build a Christian life that is producing and manifesting the fruit of the Spirit which begins with a heart tuned to Scripture every day.

The Biblical Literacy is to hide the word of God in our hearts so that we will not individually sin against God –  Psalms 119:9-11  KJV “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”

Now let us look at Biblical illiteracy. Generally the worst kind of disease is the poverty of the mind. And this is the reason why the word of God says we should renew our mind daily by reading and studying the Holy Bible: Romans 12:2 KJV “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

Biblical illiteracy is a far worse kind of illiteracy that affects the ministry (the church) in 21st Century. Biblical illiteracy is never to thoroughly read and study with understanding the Bible on your own.

Biblical illiteracy says “my pastor says” instead of “the word of God says”.

Biblical illiteracy defends the pastor/ General Overseer instead of defending the word of God.

Biblical illiteracy swallows completely whatever your pastor/General Overseer gives to you without crosschecking in the Bible whether it is correct or not like Berean Christians used to do by finding out in the Bible whether it is correct or not whatever the Apostle Paul told them: Acts 17:11  KJV “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”

Biblical illiteracy never puts efforts and time to search the scriptures in order to grow and develop into spiritual maturity as the Lord Jesus Christ commanded us – John 5:39 KJV “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.” Berean Christians obeyed this command to search the scriptures daily –  Acts 17:11  KJV “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”

Biblical illiteracy is only interested in miracles, signs and wonders instead of having a personal walk and intimate relationship with God.

Biblical illiteracy makes some Christians know their pastors/General Overseers more than knowing God for themselves whereas Biblical Literacy makes you know God through His word far more than knowing your General Overseer/Pastor:  Daniel 11:32  “…. the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.”  That is, the people that do know their God – NOT the people that do know their General Overseer/pastor.

Biblical illiteracy causes people in multitudes to be in attendance with miracle service or anointing service than Bible study or in Sunday school –  very poor attendance in either Bible study or Sunday school.

Biblical illiteracy produces very poor Bible moral standard and values in the society whereby the Christians are not manifesting as the salt of the earth and the light of the world – Matthew 5:13-14 KJV  “Ye ( the genuinely born again Christians) are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men….Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.”

Biblical illiteracy is a great challenge to the ministry in 21st Century. The solution to this challenge is Biblical Literacy.

(7) Excesses of Prosperity gospel.

To start first with the prosperity gospel before considering its excesses, prosperity gospel is a scam in Christianity. Prosperity gospel is really a challenge to the ministry in 21st Century.

Prosperity gospel is the gospel of bring your money for God to bless you.

Prosperity gospel uses Jesus Name for money.

Prosperity gospel makes merchandise of the church members, especially the gullible, naive and easily deceived/fooled Christians.

Prosperity gospel is not the foundation of practicing true Christianity.

Prosperity gospel seeks the good things of this world first instead of the kingdom of God and his righteousness – Matthew 6:33 KJV  “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” The statement “all these things shall be added unto you” means all the good things of this world – money, health, success, riches and wealth – all these things are the things the scripture says we should seek last.

According to the above quote (Matthew 6:33), the number one (1) thing to seek first is the kingdom of God, the number two (2) thing is His righteousness (holiness – living a constant holy life) and the number three (3) which is the last is all the good things of this world. But the prosperity gospel make the primary thing to seek secondary while making the secondary things primary, that is, seeking the good things of this world first before righteousness and holiness! This is the reason why the prosperity gospel is really a challenge to the ministry in 21st Century.

Prosperity gospel twists, manipulates and misapplies scriptures to brainwash people – 2 Peter 3:16  KJV “As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest (twist), as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.” The word “wrest” in this scripture means “twist “.

Prosperity gospel equates Christian faith to material possessions, and most especially financial, success; it equates to mammon (money) but the scripture says we cannot serve God and mammon together as it will be difficult for the rich to enter Heaven: Matthew 6:24 KJV and Matthew 19:23-24  KJV “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon……Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.”

Prosperity gospel has excesses which are not healthy at all for the Christian community.

The idolization of pastor/General Overseer is one of the excesses of the prosperity gospel in Nigeria and across the Africa which the scripture warned us against – 1 Corinthians 10:14  KJV “Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.”

Excesses of Prosperity gospel will give way for the radical Islam to stop the practice of true Christianity in any nation.

The solution to this challenge is to change your focus from the prosperity of the prosperity gospel to the kingdom of God’s prosperity of the principles of hard work and dignity of labor – pursuing the process of excellence for great achievement.

(8) PLAGUE OF SILENCE AND PLAGUE OF CONSPIRACY

The challenge of plague of silence and plague of conspiracy in ministry in 21st Century is this: if the remnant keep quiet/silent, the worst in the church will rule the best in the Kingdom of God.

The plague of silence is the evil fruit of “the culture of don’t ask questions concerning unchristian practices in the church;  “the culture of the elders are always right ” which is not scriptural at all:  Job 32:9  KJV “Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment.”

The consequence of plague of silence is worst form of corruption of the devaluation of human worth in Christianity.

The plague of silence and the plague of conspiracy of silence have made authority of pastors to be superior to the authority of the word of God!

Both the plague of silence and the plague of conspiracy of silence are evil – they are of darkness and they must be reproved –   never you join in fellowship with them – Ephesians 5:10-11  KJV “Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.’

For both the plague of silence and the plague of conspiracy to reign in the body of Christ, it means this: when falsehood becomes an institution, truth looks like a rebellion.

The solution to this challenge is Ephesians 5:10-11  KJV “Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.”
